Nothing to do now, 2 hours break, thus crashing Wei Quan and Suqin lecture on Software Engineering (CS2103).

I will be getting a new PC in 2008, life span of my PC is 5 years. My desktop PC was born in the year 2003.

» Intel Pentium Quad Core at 4Ghz
» 4GB of DDR3 Ram
» 2x 500GB SATA III HDD
» 2x ATI Graphics Card with 1GB memory PCI Express 2
» Audigy 2 (I do not need a good sound card)
» BluRay (BD)/HD-DVD Combo Drive
» Windows Vista SP1

Sounds good?

Um, well we shall see….

ATI might change their name by then. Vista might still not be out of beta, Intel might be bought out by AMD, DDR might be totally replaced with something else…. SATA II might stay around longer than anyone dreams of…

PCI Express just maybe re-replaced by AGP….. BluRay might never take off and instead your stuck with HD-DVD…..

So good luck buddy! ;) lol

Will, you are one hell of a cynic eh! ;)

Nice Dream PC GaMerZ, I’d definitely want a better sound card and I may be looking at a Triboot Windows / Mac / Linux.

You’re speaking my language! We’ve both got the same plan.

I got my current machine in 2002, and its a respectable 2.4ghz P4, and almost 5 years later there isn’t very much on the market that is significantly more powerful or that even excites me a little - that doesn’t cost 3-4k. I’m hoping that 1.5 - 2 years is enough time for multiple cores to drop down to reasonible prices and hopefully 24” flat screens too!

The only thing I’d change is the 2GB ram, I have that much now and its sufficient, but I hope I can get 4-8gb.

I would think that you should aim not for 2 gb ram but 4. At the rate RAM prices drop, 4GB would be a safer bet, I’m a memory whore, so I always beleive in lots of RAM. Even my slow SEMPRON 2200+ runs 1.5 gb of RAM, which is more than most people’s by 1.25gb. It runs fine for most things I’m doing and even decent with basic video editing. Not fantastically fast but decent.

Audigy 2 is ALREADY very good. Most people can’t discern the sound from anything better anyway. :)

Cobalto: I think by then vista should be SP 1 already.

Clay: 4gb, thanks for the advice, I think I should settle for 4.
